Six key styles for Spring Summer 2019

It’s that time of year again when I do a round up of the six key styles for spring summer 2019 which are realistic and easy styles for any woman to wear adding some current-ness to her wardrobe but are compatible with every day life… not that of a street style star on instagram… so you won’t see any neon here!!

There are a lot of ongoing styles that remain very much on trend this season such as midi dresses, round wicker bags which were big last summer are still prevalent, paper bag waist trousers, boiler suits and of course the ubiquitous animal print which was massive over last winter. However, I have tried to curate this list so it contains newer ideas that you maybe have not had time to add to your wardrobe.

1.Wide leg trousers – cropped and full length

In various trouser materials and in denim in all shades and colours these could be a great addition to your wardrobe. Easy to wear and can be dressed up or down. Probably opt for the cropped ones if you are short to stop you looking swamped. Asos has a great range of denim wide legs and can be easily browsed online but they are available everywhere.

2. Trouser Suits

A trouser suit is probably a must buy on this list as it will be such a useful addition to your wardrobe. Wear as a suit or wear the trousers and jacket separately with skirts, dresses, jeans and a variety of tops. Definitely no longer corporate wear a trouser suit would be a great idea for a spring or summer wedding with heels and a camisole and could be worn with trainers or other flats for work. This one shown is in one of the must have colours of the season..pistachio and will work well on anyone with muted colouring. Whistles also have a great range of suits particularly one in a jade green that I have my eye on once it goes in the sale. Tailoring is worth investing some money in so spend as much as you can afford and buy in one of your colours to ensure that you will get years of wear out of it.

3. Green midi dresses

Green midi dresses were definitely a trend last summer amongst the instagram crowd, in particular the one from Kitri.com that kept selling out. However, this year they seem much more prevalent with great options from Lolly’s Laundry, Boden and the one pictured from &Other Stories, amongst others so if you like mid dresses and one of the greens suits you then this could be a subtle way to add currentness and modernity to your wardrobe. I have invested in the green one from Lolly’s Laundry as it is a warmer shade of green which is good for my skin tone.

4. Strappy Sandals

Somewhat of a throw back to the late 90’s these are having a renaissance this spring summer. These floss sandals with square toes are going to be big business. They are very feminine when on and as are not overly high are a great option for work or play in the summer.. as good with trousers, jeans or shorts as with skirts and dresses.  Invest in a pair in one of your neutral colours and you will get dozens of wears out of them or go for one of your fun colours and will make any outfit pop.

5. Hairbands

So beloved of Kate Middleton these have become surprisingly big. Whilst definitely not for me as I think my hair is too short they look great on women with longer hair. This style shown and the fabricy hair bands with a knot in the middle both look stylish and there is no need to spend much on a hairband..one from Accessorize or Primark will do the trick.

6. Veja Trainers

Another royal favourite, this time with Meghan Markle, … they were slowly building in popularity due to their eco friendly status but when Meghan wore a pair whilst on tour in Australia in the autumn their popularity started to go through the roof. This season there are a variety of styles to chose from. My favourite is the Campo style. A pair of  white trainers will always look good with a multitude of outfits so if you are going to invest, try a pair from Veja and tick the sustainablity box whilst you are at it.

Other trends to consider are for the colours pistachio, living coral (Pantone Colour of the Year) and beige. If you have warm skin then definitely try out of the coral and beige shades but if you have cool skin then opt for a stone or taupe shade of beige and the pistachio colour.
