Look Good Feel Better Week

Me with Cheryl Taylor Mackie and Georgina Bloomfield at the Look Good Feel Better fundraising day in Colchester
Did you know this week is Look Good Feel Better week? Look Good Feel Better is the only international cancer support charity which provides practical free services for women suffering from the visible side effects of cancer treatment – namely hair, eyebrow and eyelash loss.
Over 80 hospitals in the UK offer the use of their premises for the monthly 2 hour workshops in skincare and makeup application which are offered to all women suffering hair loss due to chemotherapy treatment. The workshops are run by volunteer makeup artists who give their time to help women make the best of their new appearance; giving them control back at a time when they feel they have no control over their bodies or their treatment.
The Look Good Feel Better charity has an annual Feel Better week to promote the charity, raising awareness and holding fundraising events to help towards annual running costs.
If you fancy volunteering, doing some fundraising or recommending the charity to someone who you feel could benefit from the services the charity offers, details can be found at: www.lookgoodfeelbetter.co.uk
The local co-ordinator for the Colchester area is Georgina Bloomfield and together with her and Cheryl Taylor Mackie, a local trichologist, we hosted a Look Good Feel Better fundraising day on Monday at the Zen Clinic in Stanway to promote awareness locally of the charity. Cheryl was on hand to analyse people’s hair and I gave mini colour analysis and style tips. As with the makeup and hair advice given by the charity, knowing what to wear when feeling that the way you look is totally out of your hands, can be a massive boost to a woman’s self-confidence and self-esteem at a time when treatment is probably making her desperately unhappy about her appearance.
BBC Radio Essex also came along to find out what was going on and along with Mandie Holgate a local business coach we all were interviewed on the radio to promote the Look Good Feel Better fundraising day and the charity itself.
