Helen Mirren at the BAFTAs 2014
The last week has been a week almost dedicated to fame, fortune and fashion. With the Brits, London Fashion Week and of course, The BAFTAs all taking place, London was inundated with stars and style every night last weekend. The British Academy Film and Television Arts Awards took place last Sunday and the red carpet certainly exceeded all of our expectations; Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie showed up in matching suit and trousers, and Lupita Nyong’o shone in an emerald green floor length Christian Dior gown. The carpet was a sea of dark, demure colours, sprinkled with glitter and sequins.
One star stood out more than any other, though. Helen Mirren gracefully took to the stage and gave an incredibly heartwarming speech as she accepted the Fellowship award. She rocked up in a fabulous navy embellished sequined floor length, layered gown and looked sophisticated as ever with her signature golden blonde hair softly pinned up at the back of her head. Her skin glowed against the hue of the dress and made her look ten years younger; not that she needs to! She looked every ounce the superstar she truly is as she stepped out on to the red carpet, keeping accessories to a minimum with a diamond bracelet, earrings and a small silver clutch bag at her side.
Helen Mirren’s fantastic red carpet style is always one to be celebrated. Last year at the BAFTAs she sported a white floor length gown with white embellished flowers across the front and… PINK HAIR! The star claims she ‘copied’ a British Next Top Model winner, and she looked fabulous!
Since her rise to stardom, the Dame has never failed to disappoint, always being red carpet ready in a dress never shorter than her shins with sophistication and composure to boot. It’s no surprise that she has never been named and shamed on the worst dressed lists the media are so anxious to fill.
I for one look forward to seeing Helen Mirren’s red carpet looks for the upcoming awards ceremonies of this year!
